Boeken als.../Books as..., Huis van het Boek

The exhibition “Boeken als…/Books as…” at Huis van het Boek in The Hague explores the diverse roles books play in both societal and personal contexts. Featuring a selection from Huis van het Boek’s collection, it also showcases contemporary works by artists such as Shani Leseman, An Onghena, Jorge Méndez Blake, and Hans op de Beeck.
Designed by de Ronners, the exhibition takes place in the former residence of Baron Van Westreenen van Tiellandt (1783–1848), preserving the museum’s intimate and historic ambiance. Inspired by the building’s history, the exhibition is envisioned as a “wunderkammer”—a personal space filled with books and wrapped furniture. This concept informs the visual identity, where typography bridges historical references with contemporary elements, while a rope motif introduces both graphic and tactile qualities. The design seamlessly connects tradition and modernity, creating a dialogue between the past and present.
